Short courses catalogue

Medici Humanistic Academy

Short Courses Catalogue

For the Medici Humanistic Missions, Districts and Villages. Operational knowledge for transforming belonging, experience and relationships into service.

Short-form education close to the real life of the Mission: a common method, concrete cases, operational tools and knowledge of the territory.

Training close to the real life of the Mission

The Academy’s short courses are designed for people already active in professional, entrepreneurial, cultural and civic life. They do not ask participants to suspend their experience: they offer a common method for understanding the Continuing Renaissance, reading a territory, assessing an opportunity, building relationships and participating responsibly in the life of the Missions, Districts and Villages.

Entering a community of knowledge, relationships and projects

Entry into the Florentine Community and the Mission is not conceived as a merely formal act. The Academy offers members the opportunity to understand the vision of the Continuing Renaissance from within and, according to the role held, to acquire the tools required to participate consciously in its activities.

Short-form education is therefore a gateway to the practical life of the project: Manifesto, Districts, Villages, Manuals, Opportunities Bulletin, encounters with communities, workshops and territorial visits.

TARGET PARTICIPANTS

Honorary Consuls, Ambassadors and Fellows of the Medici Diplomatic Missions; Vicars and Pro-Vicars of the Districts; Priors, Vice-Priors, Auditors, Chancellors and Knights; and, within the Medici Humanistic Villages, Humanistic Gonfaloniers, Chancellors and members of the Governing Councils.

Relationship with the Master

Short courses do not replace the International Executive Master in Civic Humanism, Territorial Leadership and Human-Centred Project Design, with a total duration of 180 hours (96 + 84). They serve a different purpose: they enable holders of different responsibilities to acquire operational knowledge, a common language and shared criteria within a limited period.

CATALOGUE STRUCTURE

Seven courses to begin immediately

The first edition of the Catalogue is deliberately essential. It includes only programmes that can be activated using the tools, Manuals and procedures already available. Durations and schedules are indicative and may be adapted by the Academy to the participants, working language and needs of each Mission or District.

Code Course Duration Main participants
RC-01 Entering the Continuing Renaissance 4 hours Consuls, Fellows, new members
RC-02 The Applied Method of the Continuing Renaissance 8 hours All operators
RC-03 From opportunity to humanistic project 8 hours Consuls, Ambassadors, Vicars, Magistracies
RC-04 Completing the Preliminary Opportunity Referral Sheet 6 hours Vicars, Pro-Vicars, territorial operators
RC-05 Reading the Bulletin and interpreting an opportunity 6 hours Consuls, Ambassadors, Fellows
RC-06 From the Sheet to the Bulletin 4 hours Vicars, Secretariat, Magistracies
RC-07 Knowing the District 3–8 hours per session Participants defined according to territory and function

A common method, different applications

Short-form education is not intended to make everyone a specialist in the same subjects. Its purpose is to make cooperation possible among people with different competences. A Consul must be able to read an opportunity correctly; a Vicar must be able to identify and document it; the Magistracy must be able to verify it; the Ambassador must be able to present it without exceeding the limits of the mandate; and licensed specialists must be involved whenever the subject requires them.

Reference teaching documents

  • Manifesto of the Continuing Renaissance and General Regulations of the Medici Diplomatic Missions;
  • Manual of the Applied Doctrine of the Continuing Renaissance and its Questioning Grid;
  • Official Opportunities Bulletin and Public Investment Opportunity Index;
  • Reserved Preliminary Opportunity Referral Sheet and Manual for its completion;
  • territorial materials, case studies and documents prepared by the Academy for individual editions.

Methodological principle

Effective short-form education should not accumulate notions. It should enable participants to ask better questions, distinguish what is documented from what still requires verification, recognise the limits of their own competences and know what step should be taken next.

AREA A — IDENTITY AND METHOD

Understand the project before acting

RC-01 Entering the Continuing Renaissance

Indicative duration: 4 hours. Participants: Consuls, Fellows, new members of the network

Purpose. To provide a rapid but substantial understanding of the community into which the person has been invited and of the meaning of contemporary Medici service.

Core contents. Manifesto of the Continuing Renaissance; Florentine Community; nobility as quality, generosity and service; internal, cultural and honorary nature of the Missions; Humanistic Districts and Villages; role of Consuls, Ambassadors and Vicars; relationship among culture, relationships, investment and patronage.

Learning outcome. The participant can present the project correctly, understand their role and navigate the main institutions and tools of the network.

RC-02 The Applied Method of the Continuing Renaissance

Indicative duration: 8 hours — two 4-hour sessions. Participants: all operators of the Missions, Districts and Villages

Purpose. To learn to use the Manual of the Applied Doctrine as an instrument of judgement and project design, without turning it into a mechanical checklist.

Core contents. The grammar of action: principle → question → knowledge → criterion → project → work → verification → new knowledge. True, good, useful, beautiful and enduring. Generativity. Principle of the double work. Questioning Grid. Intensity Map. Three concluding questions and the essential question.

Learning outcome. The participant can question an idea or opportunity, recognise its generative strength and identify issues that require further knowledge or competences.

RC-03 From opportunity to humanistic project — The grammar of the Renaissance applied to Bulletin categories

Indicative duration: 8 hours. Participants: Consuls, Ambassadors, Vicars, Magistracies and project operators

Purpose. To show how a simple opportunity can be examined before becoming a project, avoiding the premature imposition of a function upon it.

Core contents. Workshops on cases relating to the categories of the Regulations and Bulletin: heritage and regeneration (HER), businesses and equity interests (BUS), energy (ENE), tourism and hospitality (TOU), agriculture and agri-food (AGR), culture and research (CUL), infrastructure and territorial services (INF), as well as the other categories provided for. For each case: identity, memory, people, freedom, responsibility, generativity, sustainability, beauty, duration and specialists to be involved.

Learning outcome. The participant can distinguish the opportunity from the project and formulate an initial development hypothesis consistent with the vocation of the territory, clearly stating what still requires verification.

Workshop, not an abstract lecture

RC-02 and RC-03 should mainly use real or simulated cases. In this way, the Bulletin becomes one of the first places where the Method of the Continuing Renaissance encounters economic and territorial reality.

AREA B — OPPORTUNITIES, BULLETIN AND TERRITORY

From referral to knowledge of the District

RC-04 Completing the Preliminary Opportunity Referral Sheet

Indicative duration: 6 hours. Participants: Vicars, Pro-Vicars and authorised territorial operators

Purpose. To transform a piece of news, a contact or a referral into an identifiable, verifiable and traceable case file.

Core contents. Identification of the referral; owner/promoter; object; economic dimension; form of cooperation; authorised interlocutor; documentation; maturity S0–S4; critical issues; confidentiality; data proposed for the Bulletin; Vicar declarations; errors to avoid.

Learning outcome. Complete preparation of a simulated Sheet, distinguishing documented data, declared data and information still to be verified.

RC-05 Reading the Bulletin and interpreting an opportunity

Indicative duration: 6 hours. Participants: Consuls, Ambassadors, Fellows and authorised members

Purpose. To enable those who receive an opportunity to understand its actual degree of maturity and formulate relevant questions before expressing interest.

Core contents. Codes and categories; maturity levels; difference among public data, reserved information and data room; price, CAPEX, total investment and funding requirement; promoter and authority to negotiate; declared critical issues; meaning of preliminary review and matters that remain subject to professional due diligence.

Learning outcome. The participant can read a sheet without confusing presentability with a guarantee, identifying the checks and specialists required.

RC-06 From the Sheet to the Bulletin: procedure, confidentiality and traceability

Indicative duration: 4 hours. Participants: Vicars, Secretariat, Magistracies and authorised officers

Purpose. To understand the internal procedure through which an opportunity moves from referral to possible publication.

Core contents. Flow: Vicar → Sheet → Secretariat → protocol and code → competent Magistracy → preliminary review → Supreme Magistrate → decision → Bulletin. Confidentiality, conflicts of interest, redactions, recording of additions, prohibition on premature presentation, limits of reserved professional activities and traceability of decisions.

Learning outcome. The participant understands who may do what, at what stage and with which documentation.

RC-07 Knowing the District — Courses, conferences and study visits

Indicative duration: 3–8 hours per individual meeting or visit. Participants: Consuls, Ambassadors, Vicars and other operators according to the territory

Purpose. To ensure that project design is preceded by direct knowledge of the history, traditions, communities and economic vocations of individual Tuscan Districts.

Core contents. Variable programmes: local history; cartography and archives; villas, palaces and villages; landscape and agriculture; manufacturing and craftsmanship; contemporary enterprises; cultural and religious institutions; gastronomy; infrastructure; environment; meetings with administrators, entrepreneurs, associations and custodians of local knowledge. Lessons may be integrated with visits to museums, archives, companies, workshops and places of particular territorial value.

Learning outcome. The participant gains lived knowledge of the District and gathers elements useful for interpreting its identity, relationships, critical issues and potential.

HOW TO USE THE CATALOGUE

Modular training proportionate to responsibility

Not everyone needs to attend the same courses and not everyone needs the same level of depth. Depending on the function and the stage of the pathway, the Academy may compose different training sequences.

Profile Recommended core Primary purpose
New Consul / Fellow RC-01 + RC-02 + RC-05 Understand the Mission, the Method and the Bulletin.
Ambassador RC-01 + RC-02 + RC-03 + RC-05 + RC-07 Represent, interpret the District and accompany relationships and opportunities.
Vicar / Pro-Vicar RC-01 + RC-02 + RC-03 + RC-04 + RC-06 + RC-07 Know the territory, identify and document opportunities in a traceable manner.
Village operators and Civic Councils RC-01 + RC-02 + RC-07, with targeted modules Share language, method and knowledge of the territory according to the function performed.

Training methods

Courses may be organised online, in person or in blended form. The methodology favours guided conversations, real cases, simulations, exercises using the Manuals, work on Sheets and opportunities, meetings with professionals and territorial visits. Artificial intelligence may be used as a tool for dialogue with universal knowledge, always under human responsibility and with verification of sources.

Relationship with higher education

The Catalogue does not replace the 180-hour International Executive Master. The Master is the broader methodological and project-design pathway; short courses instead respond to immediate operational needs. After the Master, the Academy also develops Higher and Continuing Humanistic Education, modular and without a compulsory total number of hours, intended for updating and deeper study during the mandate.

Other programmes already structured by the Academy

Environmental School of the Order of Saint Stephen P.M.

Alongside short courses for Missions, Districts and Villages, the Academy promotes specialist pathways. The Level I Certificate of Qualification in the Stewardship of Creation has already been structured: 16 hours of online training and a final practical in-person test, for an indicative total educational duration of 22 hours, including naturalistic monitoring, citizen science, iNaturalist, the Natura 2000 Network and a practical suitability assessment. The programme is presented separately on the Environmental School page.

A Catalogue intended to grow with the works

The Academy does not intend to create courses before there is a real need to use them. New programmes may arise when the development of the Districts and Villages brings forward concrete needs, qualified teachers, partners, projects and adequate resources. Education will therefore grow together with the Continuing Renaissance and the works it is actually able to generate.
